Is it true that colleges look at myspaces?

so is that rumor that colleges search you on myspace and determine whether they want to admit you into their college based on your myspace? a guy in my friends dads' business says they do, and even in my school newspaper it says 'watch out, colleges look at how many myspace friends you have... the more friends on myspace you have, the more likable you are, and the more they want to admit you to their college'.

Is it true that colleges look at myspaces?

Yes, this was actually on the national news! College administrators and employers will look at your myspace page to get a "feel" for the type of person you are. If you have a bunch of comments about partying and being drunk a lot of the time, they may see that as irresponsibility and turn you down. Plus if your photos show a lot of skin, that will look as irrespectable of yourself and those around you. Also if your blogs are all about really sad stuff, they may turn you down, thinking that you are not mentally and emotionally ready for college or the world of work. Now a day you can make your myspace profile private, so only your friends can view your full page. The same rules apply on facebook, tagworld, and myyearbook as well!

Is it true that colleges look at myspaces?

That sounds pretty ridiculous. I highly doubt any respectable college actually does that.

Is it true that colleges look at myspaces?

Yes it's true. There's an article about it in my high school newspaper. But, they don't look at how many friends you have (They don't care about that). They look at the language you use and other things. (To see if you're mature enough for that certain college, I guess).

Is it true that colleges look at myspaces?

It's nothing to do with how many friends you have, it's more to do with how you spend your time. If you say you like taking ketamine and E's and getting stoned, they may take that into consideration... there was an article in the Guardian about how someone got refused a job after the potential employer came across their MySpace, and I've heard a lot of colleges do check.

Is it true that colleges look at myspaces?

Well colleges don't ask for your myspace address so I imagine that they don't look at that as a criteria for making it their college.

Is it true that colleges look at myspaces?

you must be joking! I don't even have myspace-nor facebook for that matter, that can't be true............................

Is it true that colleges look at myspaces?

may be!

Is it true that colleges look at myspaces?

no, unless they have a reason, so unless you gave them one, they don't.

Is it true that colleges look at myspaces?

They don't have little myspace-checking squads, but if they see that you won an award and they google it to get more information and it shows them your myspace, then they may take a look. They don't care about the number of friends you have because myspace friends don't count as real friends. In fact, too many friends says that you use your spare time on the internet instead of doing something more worthwhile. They will care if you post pictures of illegal activities like underage drinking, drug-use, or sexual activities, and they will probably hold that against you.

Is it true that colleges look at myspaces?

Sometimes, majority of college student affairs professionals are on myspace and facebook websites so that they can keep up to date on what students are interested in. Majority of the time in the admissions process they do not look at your web page but if they have two applications that are pretty much the same then they might consider looking at your webpage to see if you would be a good fit for the school. They want to know if you have good character. Many employers do the same.

Is it true that colleges look at myspaces?
